What are the issues that the UK environmental sciences sector will be working on in the future? What high level skills will be needed to help address these issues? Do we have the people with those skills sets or are there gaps? What might the training priorities be to better equip people?
These are some of the questions being addressed by ERFF members and other stakeholders, led by NERC, for a review which when completed in Spring 2010 will be available to inform training strategies across the UK.
The review, formally called "Identification of the postgraduate skills needs which are training priorities in the environmental sciences sector", is building on the work of the ERFF Skills Needs Review Group (now disbanded).
Its aims are:
- Identify the postgraduate skills needs which are training priorities, over the short, medium and long term, for priority sector challenges facing the three main parts of the environmental sciences sector:
- The environmental sciences research base;
- Public sector bodies with a significant remit to address environmental issues; and
- The major relevant industrial/commercial organisations.
- To develop a robust process for undertaking the review so the work can be repeated/refreshed/extended.
