The coordination of environmental research and observations will remain a core activity as ERFF merges with LWEC.
Under the LWEC identity we are developing the UK's first flooding research strategy and there is a proposal to develop a similar strategy for environmental change.
A first step towards each of these strategies is the use of the Research Database
to review past and current funding priorities and then to identify gaps, overlaps and opportunities for future collaboration.
A second step is to use the environmental observation activities catalogue to identify relevant observational activities.
A third step is to use a resource such as the UK-EOF's Statement of Need, which defines which observations are needed to address urgent science, policy and socio-economic issues
The UK Environmental Observation Framework is a major coordination activity for environmental observation and will now come under LWEC.
