The UK Environmental Observation Framework (UK-EOF) has been developed in response to the long standing and complex issues concerning monitoring and observations. The UK-EOF will run for at least 5-years and will provide a strategic decision-making framework for optimising investments and measurements made by environmental observations (e.g. for research, policy and regulatory needs).
The Framework publication, detailing the concept, aims and outcomes (ERFF Report 05 - UK Environmental Observational Framework) was launched on Thursday 17 July 2008, key speakers at this event included:
- Professor Bob Watson, Chief Scientific Adviser, Defra
- Professor Alan Thorpe, Chief Executive, NERC
- Professor Maggie Gill, Chief Scientific Adviser, Rural Affairs and Environment, within the Scottish Government
- Doug Wilson, Head of Monitoring and Assessment, Environment Agency
After the launch (from 13.30 on Thursday till 13.00 on Friday 18 July 2008) a workshop was held, which covered:
- What is the observation community and what are the issues?
- What observations do we need to manage the environment ? - the Statement of Need
- Some inspiration for finding solutions
